When opportunity knocks …
The men’s group that I meet with on Tuesday mornings recently completed Mark Batterson’s book “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snow Day”. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend it!
Mark gave some wonderful background on the English word Opportunity which comes from the Latin phrase ob portu. Mark says, “In the days before modern harbors, ships had to wait till flood tide in order to make port. The Latin phrase ob portu referred to ‘that moment in time when the tide would turn’. I love that word picture for the nature of the opportunities that come our way.
Mountain View Church is experiencing the rising tide of opportunity. In the next few weeks we will serve our community through a “gas buy back” followed by a Fall Festival at David Brainerd Christian School (7553 Igou Gap Rd. in Chattanooga). Shortly after these events I am launching our Fall teaching series entitled “What if …?”.
This reminds me of something my father used to say to me, “It’s one thing to see an opportunity, it’s another to seize an opportunity”! Join me in prayer as we seize these opportunities.
